Mycology: The Study of Fungi

The study of fungi responsible for fungal infections in human and animals has ancient roots of history. Noteworthy names in the advancement of mycology include Raymond Sabouraud, Gurby David, Charles Emmons, Libero Ajjelo, and many others.

In India, some of mycologists like Dr. L.N. Mohapatra (AIIMS), Delhi, from Dr. H.S. Randhawa, Dr. H.C. Gugnani and Dr. Z.U.Khan, V.P. Chest Institute, Delhi, Dr. O.P. Srivastava, CDRI, Lucknow Dr. Mahendra Pal (Anand), Dr. D.P. Monga (Hisar), and others have contributed tremendously to mycology.

The priority of diseases caused by viruses and bacteria and in particular epidemics have attracted more attention of administrators and policymakers, thus mycology has been a neglected field.
